Bikaner. Political activity surrounding the Bikaner Municipal Corporation elections has intensified even before the official announcement of tickets. Amidst the tussle over the Congress ticket for Ward 73, the emergence of young leader Anil Kalla’s name is seen as a significant shift in the electoral dynamics. Speculation about Kalla becoming the potential Congress candidate has suddenly heated up the ward's politics.

Anil Kalla is the nephew of former minister B.D. Kalla and has previously staked a claim for the post of Bikaner City Congress President. Consequently, his potential candidacy from Ward 73 is not viewed merely as a bid for a councilor's seat; he is also being seen as a prospective mayoral candidate for the Congress party.

Deepak Pareek’s Name Circulating for BJP

Meanwhile, the BJP has all but decided to field Deepak Pareek—an entrepreneur and the party's city vice-president—as its candidate for Ward 73. However, an official announcement from the party is still pending. Political circles are abuzz with talk that Pareek is also formulating his election strategy and calculating the ward's arithmetic with an eye on the mayoral race.

If Anil Kalla (Congress) and Deepak Pareek (BJP) enter the fray, the contest in Ward 73 will transcend a simple election for a councilor's seat; it could well be viewed as a battle of prestige between two potential mayoral candidates from the respective parties.

A New Name Emerges Amidst Bids by Young Leaders Anand Joshi and Mohammad Tahir

Prior to this, there was already a tug-of-war regarding the Congress ticket for Ward 73 between City Congress General Secretary Anand Joshi and Mohammad Tahir, both of whom were actively vying for the nomination. However, the emergence of Anil Kalla’s name has introduced a new twist to the internal politics of the Congress party. Given Kalla's political background, his family's influence, and his recent bid for the City Congress President's post, his candidacy has raised concerns among other aspirants.

Kalla’s Entry Would Raise the Stakes of the Contest

If Anil Kalla’s candidacy for Ward 73 is finalized and Deepak Pareek enters the fray representing the BJP, this contest could well become one of the most high-profile battles in the Bikaner Municipal Corporation elections. On one side, there is a political family legacy and a youthful face; on the other, active involvement in the BJP organization and a business background—both sides are gearing up to enter the arena with their respective strengths.

While the official candidate lists from both major parties are currently awaited, the political temperature in Ward 73 has already risen even before the ticket allocation is finalized. Only after the announcement of the tickets will it become clear which way the internal Congress tussle swings and who steps up to challenge the BJP's prospective candidate.
