Rajasthan: School sports calendar revised due to local body elections; district-level competitions to now begin on September 16.

Jaipur/Bikaner: The schedule for school sports competitions in Rajasthan has been revised due to the upcoming urban local body elections. The Department of Secondary Education has released revised dates for the 70th District and State-level sports competitions for secondary and senior secondary students (session 2026-27). Originally proposed for August, the schedule underwent partial revision due to the election process and the deployment of teachers and other staff for election duties.

According to the revised schedule, district-level competitions for the Under-17 and Under-19 age groups will now commence on September 16. The competitions will be organized across four groups on separate dates. This decision by the Education Department aims to ensure the smooth conduct of competitions while keeping players, physical education teachers, and organizing staff free from election-related responsibilities.

District-level competitions to be held in four groups

As per the revised schedule, district-level competitions for the first group will take place from September 16 to 20. Subsequently, competitions for the second group will be held from September 18 to 22, and for the third group from September 21 to 25. Similarly, competitions for the fourth group will also be conducted according to the revised schedule.

The department has issued instructions to complete school-level competitions within the stipulated timeframe. Meanwhile, players and teams successful at the district level will get the opportunity to participate in the state-level competitions.

State-level competitions also rescheduled

Along with the changes to the district-level competition schedule, the dates for state-level competitions have also been revised. State-level competitions for the first group will be held from September 25 to October 1, for the second group from September 28 to October 4, and for the third group from September 30 to October 6. The schedule for the 70th district and state-level sports competitions for the 2026-27 academic session has been made available on Rajasthan's Shala Darpan sports portal. These competitions involve students in the Under-11, Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19 age groups.

Election Duty Prompts Schedule Change

The process for urban local body elections is currently underway in the state during August and September. A large number of government physical education teachers and other Education Department staff have been deployed for election duty. Consequently, the conduct of the previously scheduled sports competitions was likely to be disrupted. In view of this, the Directorate of Secondary Education has issued a revised calendar for the competitions.
