Around 40 colonies in the city went without piped water for a third consecutive day as repair work on the Indira Gandhi Canal forced the water department to suspend supply.
Residents of Gangashahar, Bhinasar and Mukta Prasad Nagar have been worst affected, and many are buying water from private tankers at inflated rates.
The Municipal Commissioner said 22 tankers have been deployed and affected areas are receiving water twice a day. The water department expects normal supply to resume by Friday evening.
